2009 has started off slightly below last year’s sales level. February and March 2008 averaged £3,300 so we need an upturn in sales if we are to match last year’s successes.
As you can see, we have decided to discontinue offering discounts to eligible customers. This will save us about £35 per week. The vast majority of customers have been very understanding, even embarrassed that they have been taking these discounts in the past! (we do have such lovely customers). We are still running our Ethical Points scheme, because (a) we spent lots of money on the card readers etc and (b) it’s a great way of rewarding our core loyal customers for their continued custom.
Other measures are looking OK – over 500 customers per week, average spend over £5.50, over 2,000 items sold.
So far this month we have worked for over 400 hours and it’s cost us £635! No wonder my brother (a business consultant) tells me we’re playing at being business people. Still, the overdraft has gone, we’ve paid off all our pre-Xmas invoices (the main reason why we’ve made a loss) and are covering all our current bills – and feeding the kids to boot.
And we have exciting plans for 2009….for further details see the News page!
