ORGANIC HEAVEN MAKES A PROFIT!!
FullNews Archive coming soon
Well, it may have taken a while, but the accounts for the second year of trading show a modest net profit of £1,558. This is a significant improvement on the £3,527 loss recorded in year 1.
Overall sales were up a huge 42% but that was significantly down to running the box scheme for 8 months. Expenses went up by less, 37%, producing the improvement in profit (for those of you who don’t know, sales less expenses equals profit). A full breakdown of our accounts can be viewed on our shop window and, when I get round to typing it up, on this page here as well!
The rather worrying feedback in the organic and wholefood sector, however, is one of contraction. A few well known shops have closed in the last year, including Beanos in Leeds (which I believe was about 30 years old) and Out of This World, which has four quite large shops. It’s not just competition from the supermarkets but the whole economic downturn/interest rate rises/housing market slowdown/sub-prime thingy worries etc.
So, this next year could be a real make or break for us, which brings me onto my next bit of news….
IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING!!!
Yes, it’s true, John has delivered our lovely hand made pine units and is installing them as we speak. This means an opening date of Monday 26 November is entirely possible. The new till is being installed on Wednesday 14 November and then it’s a matter of getting the stock in and on the shelves, price labels displayed, bit of paint here and there, bit of new carpeting, a big curtain to cover the back window (it looks like a prison with big iron bars across it!), and some seating for our esteemed customers to rest their weary legs. We’ve been given two cardboard (yes cardboard) seats which look great but aren’t all that comfortable. However, given our budgetary constraints, they might have to do (we’ll get a few cushions in of course).
So make a note in your diary – Monday 26 November. Then watch as it comes and goes because we hit all kinds of snags and crises (ooh, you old pessimist Tim!)
